U-Hi is a half-game out of first after comeback

University endured 10 minutes of frustration Thursday night before showing why it’s one of the Greater Spokane League’s elite boys basketball teams.

Calvin Jurich finished with 29 points, 12 rebounds and five steals as the Titans roared back from a 26-10 deficit to defeat visiting East Valley 68-53.

U-Hi (14-5, 9-3) moved within one-half game of first-place Ferris (9-2 GSL). The Titans complete their regular season Thursday against Lewis and Clark. Ferris has games remaining against Shadle Park and Rogers. Third-place West Valley and Gonzaga Prep are both 8-3 with two games left.

EV (5-14, 2-10) hit 9 of 13 field goals in the first quarter to build its lead. Chase Courchaine of the Knights scored 13 of his 14 points in the first quarter.

U-Hi closed out the final 6 minutes of the first half with a 21-4 run.

U-Hi’s Inderbir Gill totaled 12 points and eight assists. Teammate Matt Hanna added seven assists.

Bjorklunds boost Titans

Angie Bjorklund scored 11 of her 26 points in the first quarter to lift U-Hi (19-0, 12-0) to a 61-34 win over visiting EV (9-10, 5-7). U-Hi’s Jami Bjorklund added 17 points and 10 rebounds. EV had 21 turnovers. The Titans will attempt to complete a perfect regular season when they host undefeated LC on Thursday.
