NC football coach resigns

Jay Jordan, who led North Central High to a 6-14 record in two years has head football coach, has resigned effective immediately.

Jordan, who is working toward an administrative credential, felt he couldn’t devote the effort needed to run a football program since recently leaving the classroom.

“My new job doesn’t allow me to continue putting the time into (coaching),” said Jordan, who in the second semester has been serving as an administrative assistant. “It certainly isn’t an easy decision by any means. I think that part of it is, if I’m going in this direction, it’s not really fair for the kids.

“The one thing that I respect the most is the commitment from those kids and they’ve kept up that commitment this winter, while my assistants have been running the weight room. It just wouldn’t be fair to them to leave in June or July or whenever that may happen if it does happen.”

North Central was the first head coaching position for Jordan, 30. Last fall the Indians’ 4-6 record included a 24-14 win over North Side rival Shadle Park and a 44-38 four-overtime loss to University in the Greater Spokane League’s longest-ever game.

“Jay Jordan has been a leader here at North Central and will continue making a positive contribution to the students and staff,” NC activities coordinator Travis Schulhauser said in a statement. “Jay’s organization, dedication and fantastic rapport with students will be greatly missed on the football field.”

Schulhauser said the position will be posted early next week, with the hope of filling the vacancy quickly.
