Cancer Care Services fund-raiser shifts to city

From staff reports

SANDPOINT – Due to low snow conditions, the annual Cancer Care Challenge normally held at Schweitzer ski area has been relocated to a block party in Sandpoint.

The annual fund-raiser is now scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Di Lunas and Pend d’Oreille Winery on Cedar Street in Sandpoint. The ski portion of the event has been eliminated, but the fund-raiser for Cancer Care Services will go on with a silent auction, “Lodge Skier” category pledges, prizes and awards.

In the past, skiers would collect pledges for how many runs they could complete in a day at Schweitzer. This year, participants are asked to still collect pledges and bring them to the block party by 6:30 p.m. to be eligible for prizes. Top moneymakers, both individuals and teams, will be eligible for prizes. T-shirts and “Be One” wrist bands will be on sale to raise funds, too.

The money raised goes to Cancer Care Services, which provides support and resources to people with cancer in Bonner County.

“This year’s competition comes down to who can raise the most money for CCS,” said organizer Jennifer Merwin in a press release. “If anything, this format opens the door to all people regardless of their physical abilities.”

To donate directly, send checks to Cancer Care Challenge at P.O. Box 2213, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
