Woman killed in crash north of Spokane

From staff reports

A woman was killed Saturday evening after the car she was driving collided with a pickup north of Spokane.

The car, a Honda Accord, was southbound on North Market Street between Magnesium and East Hawthorne roads when it crossed the center line and hit a northbound Ford pickup around 5:30 p.m., said Spokane County Sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan

The pickup was driven by Mead resident Robert C. King, 60, Reagan said. The identity of the woman was withheld Saturday night. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed instantly, Reagan said. King, who was buckled, was not injured.

Snow was falling at the time of the crash, but the car did not appear to have skidded, Reagan said.

Deputy Dave Thornburg said at the scene that witnesses reported that the Honda nearly hit other vehicles just before the crash. He said there were no obvious signs that alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
