Meghan Shortell, a senior at Shadle Park High School, and Cassidy Gardner, a senior at Ferris High School, were recently named semifinalists for the 2004-2005 National Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.

Shortell and Gardner were selected from more than 100,000 applications nationwide. This is one of the largest corporate-sponsored merit scholarship programs of its kind in the country.

The program recognizes a diverse group of high school seniors who have demonstrated academic and civic excellence in their schools and communities.

The pair are among 2,600 seniors in the running for $1.8 million in college scholarships that the foundation is awarding this spring.
