Dotson leads Mead to GSL win

It was all Mead on Thursday.

The league-leading Panthers rolled up an easy Greater Spokane League gymnastics victory at University, posting 171.85 points to outdistance the host Titans, who finished with 163.8. Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls (149.35) and Rogers (144.8) finished a distant third and fourth.

The Panthers’ Ashley Dotson eked out all-around honors with 35.5 points. U-Hi’s Kayla McGahey was second with 35.325.

Dotson won the balance beam and was second on the uneven bars. McGahey posted a 9.35 to win the bars.

Kayla Clarke won the vault for Mead, her first victory of the season, edging teammate Kaila Evenoff.

Patterson puts PR on right track

Jeremy Patterson’s three 3-pointers and 11 first-half points sparked Priest River (6-6) to a 76-40 non-league win at Cusick. James Nenema paced the Panthers (3-9) with 14 points. … Hawkins Gebbers scored 40 points in leading host Brewster over Lake Roosevelt 67-57 in a Caribou League game. Gus Smith led the Raiders with 17.

Cheney wins at WV

Cheney won four of the final five matches to earn a 41-32 Greater Spokane League victory at West Valley. Justin Garland started the ball rolling for the Blackhawks by pinning 275-pounder Brett Schoenberger 37 seconds into the first match of the night. Cheney 215-pounder Travis McKenzie capped the night by pinning Nikko Guzman 35 seconds into the final match. Jeff Degenhardt highlighted the night for WV, scoring a 14-11 victory over Keith Parker in the 145-pound match.

Cardinals steamroll Pullman

Medical Lake came two points away from sweeping its match with Pullman, posting a 63-3 victory at Pullman. Garrett Ralston scored a 2-1 victory over Pullman’s Mike Thomas, last year’s league runner-up, in the 189-pound match. Thomas received a penalty point for a slam that tied the match at 1, and Ralston scored an escape to win the match. State-ranked 140-pounder David Snyder scored a first-round pin for the Cardinals. … Colville 37, Deer Park 24: Colville’s Cody Cooper came back from a near fall in the third round to score a 6-5 victory over Levi Anderson in the 112-pound match at Colville, coming back from a 4-3 deficit. Down 3-1, Jace Berg came back to score a second-round pin over Reid Geyer to seal the victory for the Indians. … Riverside 48, Chewelah 30: The Rams won three matches by forfeit and five more by pinfall to sink visiting Chewelah.
