Pharmacy assistant accused of stealing drugs from prison
An Airway Heights Corrections Center pharmacy assistant was arrested Thursday at the prison, accused of stealing drugs.
Douglas Steinke, 42, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for investigation of possession of a controlled substance and second-degree theft, prison spokeswoman Risa Klemme said.
Klemme said the allegations involve Steinke’s job at the prison but she did not elaborate.
A supervisor notified Airway Heights police on Wednesday and Steinke was arrested at the prison Thursday morning.
It does not appear that other prison staff or prisoners were involved, Klemme said.
Steinke was held without bond pending a court appearance Friday. He was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
