Mitchel scores 21 as Sandpoint hands Moscow first loss

Sandpoint held on to earn a 68-65 Inland Empire League victory over previously unbeaten Moscow on Friday at Sandpoint.

Moscow had its lead cut to one with 11 seconds left. Moscow fouled to regain possession, but Sandpoint converted both free throws to take a three-point lead. The Bears’ 3-point shot at the buzzer misfired.

Ben Mitchel pulled down eight rebounds to go with his team-high 21 points for Sandpoint (7-6, 2-3). Jake Lefors was 8 for 8 from the line to finish with 19 points for Moscow (11-1, 4-1).

Bengals top Clarkston

Lewiston closed out the rivalry game on a 16-8 run in the fourth quarter, downing Clarkston 45-41 at Lewiston. Jeff Decker pumped in 15 points to lead the Bengals (4-6). Collin Castellaw’s 10 points paced the Bantams (4-6).

Mullan 38, St. Regis (Mont.) 36: Cory Pehan’s free throw gave the Tigers (3-6) a two-point lead with 17 seconds left to play and visiting St. Regis missed a shot to tie at the buzzer. Pehan finished with 14 rebounds.
