Sarah Gehring served up the exclamation point on Thursday.

The Central Valley junior drilled a court-length 3-pointer to highlight the Bears’ breakout third period, sparking a 57-37 Greater Spokane League girls basketball victory at East Valley.

Up by six points at halftime, CV (10-3, 5-1) went on a 16-7 run in the third quarter to take control.

Heidi Heintz paced CV with 24 points. The Bears forced 27 turnovers.

Eleaya Schuerch had 11 points and seven rebounds to lead EV (6-7, 2-4).

Bears win at EV

Central Valley (9-4, 3-3) scored 19 points from the free-throw line to secure a 48-44 Greater Spokane League victory at East Valley. Nick Ambrose pumped in 17 points while his CV teammates shot a collective 19 for 25 from the free-throw line. Jye Lanphere paced EV (4-9, 1-5) with 14 points.

Saxons edge Bears

Ferris edged Central Valley in a Greater Spokane League four-way meet at Rogers. Ferris scored 162.475 to the Bears’ 161.525 to score the victory. CV had a slightly different lineup because of the flu. Lakeside finished third at 151.675 and the host Pirates fourth at 147.95. CV’s Maya Morgan won all-around honors, scoring 35.15 points to edge Ferris’ Lindsey Haney, who scored 34.6. Morgan won both the uneven bars and the balance beam. Haney won the floor exercise while Rogers’ Kayla Clarke won the vault with a career-best 9.1.

Eagles pin five to win at Riverside

Lakeside used five pins to score a 46-26 Great Northern League victory at Riverside. The Eagles won five straight matches, from 160 through 215 pounds, to put away the match. Ronnie Stump came from behind to score a pin for the Rams at 152 pounds. … Medical Lake 55, Chewelah 12: The Cardinals dominated the match, winning the final eight weights of the night. Brad Groce tied a bow on the victory by scoring a pin in 27 seconds in the 152-pound final match. … Colville 41, Pullman 30: The Indians earned the victory at Pullman by winning the final three matches of the night, two by pinfall. In a rematch of last year’s district championship match, Pullman 189-pounder Mike Thomas avenged last year’s loss by pinning Nick McHugh with 3 seconds left in the second round.
