Disorderly man arrested at McDonald’s

The Spokesman-Review

A 33-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly kicked a Spokane Valley police officer.

Jason E. Reece, of 216 N. Skipworth Road, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree assault.

Police were called to the McDonald’s at Sprague and University after a man reportedly accused a driver in the drive-through lane of killing someone, said police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan. The driver, who told police he didn’t know Reece, feared for his safety.

“He latched on to this guy’s car and wouldn’t let go,” Reagan said.

When police arrived, Reece allegedly refused to obey their instructions and appeared ready to attack the officers, Reagan said. “They said he was just way out of control,” he said. “This guy was obviously high on something.”

Officers fired a Tazer at Reece, who allegedly kicked one of the officers as they were trying to subdue him. Officers discovered that he was armed with two pocket knives, a razor knife and two pairs of scissors, Reagan said.

Reece may also be charged with harassment and disorderly conduct, he said.

Gear stolen from BLM truck at Dishman Dodge

Nearly $2,000 worth of equipment was stolen from a Bureau of Land Management truck parked at Dishman Dodge sometime last week.

The 2004 Dodge truck was dropped off for service on Jan. 14 and picked up on Wednesday. The BLM employee who picked it up noticed several items missing, said Spokane Valley Police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan in a press release.

Police could find no evidence the truck was forcibly entered, Reagan said. The missing items include Leica binoculars, Pentax binoculars, a Pentax camera, an 80x300 mm telephoto lens and a Farmen GPS device. A brown Gortex jacket with a BLM patch on the sleeve also was taken.

The truck was parked on the Dishman Dodge lot and wasn’t in a secured area, said customer service manager Richard Bowman. “We just park them out there and lock them and usually they’re OK,” he said.

BLM estimates the value of the missing equipment at close to $2,000. “This certainly surprised us,” said BLM Ranger Mike Shannahan. “We’d definitely like to get it solved. This is not a happy thing.”

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call police at 242-TIPS.

Indecisive man arrested on meth possession charge

A nervous man was arrested Wednesday after he couldn’t decide what do to with himself as a Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy watched.

A deputy was on patrol near Argonne and Upriver Drive when he spotted a car take a sudden turn onto Upriver Drive, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan in a press release. The car quickly turned into a driveway and the driver walked up to the home’s front door.

The man was staring at the deputy, who had pulled over to watch what the man did. The man changed his mind and walked back to his car, then changed his mind again and went back to the house, Reagan said.

The deputy began talking with the man, who identified himself as Christopher J. Rusho, 21. Rusho was wanted on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and was arrested.

The deputy also discovered a cigarette pack at Rusho’s feet that contained a large amount of methamphetamine, Reagan said. Rusho was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Man hammering at Halpin’s blames lost cat

A man unsuccessfully attempted to convince police officers that the reason he was hammering a hole in the wall of Halpin’s Pharmacy on East Sprague Monday night was because he was trying to rescue his cat.

A passer-by saw the man and called police shortly before midnight, said Spokane Valley Police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan in a press release. When officers arrived, a man told them a cat he had just found had jumped from his arms and run inside the pharmacy.

Officers did not find a cat or cat tracks, but they did find a hammer and screwdriver on the ground near the hole, Reagan said. The business owner told police that a vent that measured about 6 by 9 inches was now about 18 inches square.

The damage to the business was estimated to be $500. Police arrested 19-year-old Shawn W. Moore, 12114 E. Cataldo, on felony charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree malicious mischief.

Burglar takes cashbox from Valley Sounds on Wheels

A burglar who appeared to have inside information broke into the Valley Sounds on Wheels Tuesday night.

The burglar smashed the glass front door to get inside and set off an alarm. Police arrived just before 10:30 p.m. and searched the building at 12410 E. Indiana Ave. but found no one, said police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan in a press release.

The store was not ransacked, but the business owner told police that a hidden cash drawer was missing. The drawer was in a locked interior office that did not appear to be forced open, Reagan said. Only a small amount of money was in the drawer.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call police at 242-TIPS.
