Cusick only unbeaten left in the Panorama

The ninth-ranked Cusick Panthers became the Panorama League’s only undefeated girls basketball team by upsetting third-ranked Curlew, 68-38 in a battle of division leaders Saturday at Cusick.

Cusick’s pressure man-to-man defense kept the Cougars out of sync and the Panthers dominated the rebounding with 42.

Cara Shepherd dominated inside for Cusick (15-1, 10-0), putting up 21 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Kimberly Bluff added 19 points and eight rebounds while Misty Ostlie scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Amanda Grumbach scored 13 points for Curlew (14-1, 9-1).

Springdale 50, Northport 32: Amanda Krieg had 19 points to lead the Chargers (5-11, 3-7) at Northport. Kaprina Goodwin paced the Mustangs (5-10, 2-8) with 22 points. … Wellpinit 57, St. George’s 55: Ashley Herling buried a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left to play to give the St. George’s (6-9, 5-5) a 55-54 lead, but the Dragons fouled Samantha Flett as she put up a desperation 3-pointer with a second left to play. Flett made all three free throws to cap her 23-point night for Wellpinit (9-6, 6-4). … Republic 48, Selkirk 47: Randi Beck made a pair of free throws with 7 seconds left to play to give the Tigers the win at Selkirk. Holly Newman’s baseline jumper at the buzzer fell short for the Rangers (7-9, 5-5). Beck finished with 14 points to lead the Tigers (8-6, 6-4). … Columbia 42, St. Michael’s 40: Christy Dashiell scored seven of her team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lions (2-11, 2-8) at Spokane. Megan Vogel had 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Warriors (2-11, 1-9).

Freshman Cain sparks Broncos

Freshman Laura Cain scored nine of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter to lead Lind-Ritzville to a come-from-behind, 40-38 Bi-County League upset of league-leading Sprague-Harrington. The Broncos (6-7, 6-5) were 9 of 11 from the free-throw line in the final period, during which they outscored the Falcons 17-8. Cain, who joined the Lind-Ritzville squad this week, was 5 of 5 from the free-throw line in the final 8 minutes. Abby Hatten had 11 points for Sprague-Harrington (12-2, 11-1). … Liberty 62, Wilbur-Creston 41: The Lancers used a big first half to earn the win on the road. Kristin Crosby pulled down a dozen rebounds for Liberty (9-4, 9-3) and teammate Shannon Davis scored 11 of her 16 points in the third quarter. Ashley Warnecke had 13 points for Wilbur-Creston (4-9, 4-7). … Northwest Christian 56, Odessa 50: The Crusaders (6-7, 5-6) used 15 Odessa turnovers to score the win on the road. Sara Fairburn put up 20 points for NWC. Odessa got 12 points each from Andrea Kuch and Jennie Harp. … Almira/Coulee-Hartline 82, Valley Christian 62: The Warriors (10-2, 9-1) broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Valley Christian 26-12. Kami Clark scored a game-high 35 points for ACH. Valley Christian got 14 points from Meagan Briggs. … Davenport 47, Reardan 25: The Gorillas used their full-court press to force 22 first-half turnovers, create 15 steals and build a 36-6 halftime lead. Davenport hit 16 of 25 shots in the first half. Kaylee Semprimoznik scored 18 points to lead the Gorillas (8-6, 7-5). Reardan (2-11, 1-10) was just 2 for 13 from the floor in the first half.

Eagles upset Tekoa-Oakesdale

St. John-Endicott knocked off Tekoa-Oakesdale on the road, 59-47. The Eagles (11-6, 6-3) took control in the third quarter on a 19-8 run. Sydney Gossard poured in 21 points to lead St. John-Endicott. Mallory Puckett’s 19 led the Nighthawks (10-4, 7-2). … Garfield-Palouse 56, Rosalia 23: The Vikings rolled at home. Details were not available.

Northeast A League

Colfax holds off Kettle Falls

Colfax built a 10-point lead in the third quarter, then held off a Kettle Falls rally to score a 56-52 Northeast A League victory at Kettle Falls. The northern Bulldogs rallied to cut the Colfax lead to just two points in the final minute. Angie Dennison scored 18 points for the southern Bulldogs (10-6, 2-1). Liz Beardslee scored 11 of her team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter for Kettle Falls (9-7, 1-2).

Top-ranked Scotties romp

The Freeman Scotties, the top-ranked Class 1A team in Washington, used a full-court defense to flatten visiting Priest River, 73-42, at Freeman. Junior standout Jessie DePell pumped in 18 points to lead Freeman (12-2). Jessica Willig had a dozen points to lead the Spartans (8-8). … LaCrosse-Washtucna 56, Genesee 35: The Tigercats (9-4, 4-3) dominated on the boards to earn the non-league win on their home court. Mo Webley scored 18 points and Jennifer Ayers Stamper added another 14 to led LaCrosse-Washtucna.
