NIC sweeps at own duals meet

The Spokesman-Review

North Idaho College swept both of its matches at the Cardinal Duals, defeating Simon Fraser 34-12 and Pacific (Ore.) 20-15.

NIC took six of the 10 matches in the slim win over Pacific, getting major decisions from Derek Kipperburg at 149 (16-5) and Mike Rogers at 165 (16-2).

Against Simon Fraser, the Cardinals rolled behind a pin by Cody Nicholson at 133, a forfeit at 125 and an injury forfeit in the heavyweight class.

Junior hockey

Scott Rensmon scored two goals with three assists, and Steve Wagner added two goals and two assists as Spokane cruised to an 8-1 win over the Kimberley Dynamiters of British Columbia at Planet Ice in KIJHL play.

Track and field

Two Washington State freshmen broke meet records at the third annual WSU Open Indoor Meet.

Haley Paul broke the 800-meter record, finishing in 2:14.40, and Collier Lawrence broke the 1-mile mark with a time of 5:12.48.

Idaho senior Tassie Souhrada broke the meet record in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-8.
