Sanchez, Reid featured in Quest bout
As far as notice goes, Eddie Sanchez got more than he did for his last fight.
The New Orleans boxer, ranked No. 10 in the world, is the late replacement for NABF super welterweight champion Rodney Jones, who was injured during training, for Northern Quest Casino’s first nationally televised boxing card Friday.
Sanchez, 12-3-2, with eight knockouts, and Teddy Reid, 22-6-1, with 16 knockouts, of Adelphi, Md., will fight for the interim NABF super welterweight title in the 12-round main event.
The six-bout fight card will be televised live on ESPN2 from the Airway Heights casino, with the first match scheduled to begin at 4:30.
Sanchez, who officially accepted the fight last week, won his last two bouts – both career highlights.
His last fight, a 12-round unanimous decision over world-ranked contender J.C. Candelo on Aug. 13, was only confirmed the morning of the fight.
The victory earned Sanchez the IBF No. 10 ranking and a No. 14 ranking by the WBC. In June, Sanchez scored a sixth-round TKO of ranked contender Jose Celaya.
The co-main event features WBA Fedelatin Featherweight Champion Whyber Garcia (15-2-0, 11 knockouts) defending his belt against undefeated challenger Vlademir Pereira (19-0, 14 knockouts), the No. 1-ranked contender.
