Symphony to play free concert in park
The Spokane Symphony will play a free concert in Riverfront Park’s Lilac Bowl on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
The performance, in conjunction with the 9th Circuit Judicial Conference meeting at the Spokane Convention Center, is the symphony’s first free concert in the downtown park in more than 10 years.
A wide variety of music will be featured on the program, ranging from such movie tunes as the “Star Wars” Suite and themes from “James Bond” to classical favorites by Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Copland and Strauss. The concert will close with Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”
Associate Conductor Morihiko Nakahara will direct the orchestra.
Opera Plus cruise
Opera Plus presents its fifth annual Sunset Cruise on Lake Coeur d’Alene on Sunday.
Colorado soprano Delight Wakkinen-Scheck, Montana tenor Steven Aadland and Spokane baritone Max Mendez will perform opera favorites and show tunes accompanied by keyboardist David Demand, with commentary by Opera Plus’ Marlo Faulkner.
The cruise boards Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Marina Dock and sails at 6:30. Open seating is $26 per person or $30 for reserved tables. Onboard appetizers and a post-cruise dinner will be available.
