Weapon, drug charges land brothers in jail

The Spokesman-Review

A traffic stop Sunday night ended with the arrest of two brothers on weapons and drug charges.

David R. Martinez, 25, 5010 E. First Ave., was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, Spokane Valley police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said. Robert Martinez, 34, 3817 E. 22nd Ave. was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of methamphetamine.

About 11 p.m. Sunday, an officer saw a black Honda swing wide from a driveway in the 7700 block of East Trent Avenue, then fail to use a turn signal to pull into traffic, Reagan said. The passenger wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

A check of the two men revealed they each had prior felony convictions, Reagan said. Two loaded .357-caliber revolvers were found under the seats in the car. It’s illegal for felons to possess weapons.

A drug dog was summoned, and two baggies of methamphetamine were found inside a coat one of the men had been holding on his lap when the car was pulled over, Reagan said.

The Martinez brothers were booked into Spokane County Jail.

An unsound decision

Spokane Valley police arrested a 33-year-old man after he hit a $1,200 speaker at a restaurant.

Calvin B. Davis, 6321 E. Fourth Ave., was charged with second-degree malicious mischief, a felony, Spokane Valley police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said

About 8:20 p.m. Sunday, a man punched out a speaker while on his way out of Puerto Vallarta, 6915 E. Sprague Ave., Reagan said. He knocked the speaker to the ground.

Employees at the restaurant said the man had been refusing to leave when he hit the speaker.
