Blue ribbons and bragging rights aren’t the only thing on the line… there are plenty of cash prizes, too. Set aside some time to perfect your best recipes in the next few weeks. The deadline for entries in the Spokane County Interstate Fair is looming. Entry forms must be postmarked on or before Aug. 9.

Spam Kid Chef of the Year

If you know a young chef who could whip up a Spam delicacy, they could be in line for up to $1,000 in cash. The first place winner at the Spokane County fair will receive $150 and be entered in the national competition for the grand prize. It includes $1,000 cash and another $1,000 donation to the winner’s favorite charity. Dynamic Duo Baking Contest

Bake bread with Fleischmann’s yeast and Argo, Karo or Tones or Spice Islands spices and you could win $150 at the fair and advance to the national contest. There are categories for individuals as well as teams made up of an adult and child. Any kind of baked item, savory or sweet, are welcome. Chocolate Championship

Whip up your most decadent chocolate indulgence with Ghirardelli chocolate and you could win the $150 first prize and a chocolate gift basket. You can use chocolate chips, bars or cocoa. There also will be a special prize for one randomly selected entry. Look inside today’s IN Food section for last year’s national winner.

Family Friendly Food Contest

If you cook with Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning this is the contest for you. Each entry must include at least 1 packet (2 tablespoons) of Hidden Valley The Original Ranch Salad Dressing and Seasoning Mix. Appetizers, classic casseroles, sizzling stir-fry or other family favorite are welcome.

The first place winner will receive $200 and be entered in the grand prize contest for a chance at $1,000.

Wow Now Pork Recipe Rally

The National Pork Board is looking for the best quick pork recipes.

The dish must include fresh pork as the only meat and no more than five other ingredients (salt, pepper, water and cooking spray or oil don’t count). Sorry, bacon, ham and sausage do not qualify.

First place will receive a $250 prize and other goodies.

If the more traditional fair competition is more your speed, pick up an exhibitor’s guide. They can found at the fair office, 404 N.
