Virus makes Cardinals leave NAU

Associated Press

The Arizona Cardinals are moving their training camp from Flagstaff because of a virus outbreak on the Northern Arizona University campus.

The team said late Monday afternoon no decision had been made on where the camp will be located. Players are scheduled to gather Sunday, with workouts beginning next Monday.

Team officials said they hoped to identify a new training site on Tuesday.

“The overwhelming concern obviously was the health and well-being of our team,” said Rod Graves, vice president of football operations. “Despite what have been extraordinary efforts on the part of everyone at NAU to accommodate our team, in the end, even the slightest risk of exposure was something we cannot chance.”

Last week, more than 100 people attending summer camps at the university contracted the highly contagious norovirus, an illness that is not life-threatening but causes flu-like symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps.

Colts sign three more picks

The Indianapolis Colts agreed to deals with three more draft picks, signing safety Matt Giordano and defensive end Jonathan Welsh. Guard Dylan Gandy is expected to sign Tuesday after agreeing to terms.

All three are believed to have signed three-year deals.

First-round pick Marlin Jackson has yet to sign, but his agent, Doug Hendrickson, said, “It sounds, from the tone, like they want to get something done, and we want to get something done, so we’ve just got to come together and get a fair deal. I think something will get done.”

Patterson reaches deal with Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles signed first-round pick defensive end Mike Patterson to a five-year deal.

Patterson, 6-foot, 292 pounds, helped USC win consecutive national championships in 2003 and 2004, and was the 31st overall selection in the draft.
