So, the Eminem show may not be over quite yet

The Spokesman-Review

Is Eminem headed for retirement – or just taking a break? The Detroit Free Press reported earlier this month that sources said the 32-year-old rapper would play his last concert in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 17, at the end of his “Anger Management” tour.

But in a posting on its Web site, MTV quotes Eminem as saying, “I’m not retiring,” and also denying that “Encore” is his last album.

“When I say I’m taking a break, I’m taking a break from my music to go in the studio and produce my other artists and put their albums out,” Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, tells MTV.

“When I know my next move, I’ll tell everyone my next move,” he adds. “Not some reporter who writes a story about ‘this is Eminem’s last album.’ I never said (‘Encore’) was my last album.”

Eminem has won nine Grammys, including best rap album for “The Slim Shady LP,” “The Marshall Mathers LP” and “The Eminem Show.”

He won an Oscar for the song “Lose Yourself” from the 2002 film “8 Mile,” in which he also starred.

When the music’s over …

A judge has issued a permanent injunction banning two members of the Doors from using the band’s name and any likeness of late frontman Jim Morrison to promote a renewed version of the band.

The court sided with Doors drummer John Densmore, who sued keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger, who have been touring under the name “The Doors of the 21st Century.”

Densmore’s lawyer said band members had a unique “unanimity requirement” giving any single member a right to veto a move involving the group, adding: “John has always held as his primary motive to preserve the legacy of the band.”

Unlike Jessica, her dumb luck ran out

A New Jersey woman has been accused by authorities of amassing more than $12,000 in free merchandise, from cosmetics to jewelry to handbags, by claiming she was Jessica Simpson‘s assistant.

Courtney Handel, 23, sent e-mails and faxes to companies posing as Simpson assistant CaCee Cobb. But she used her own address, and when police detectives arrived, they found her home full of merchandise.

“As we were standing outside, UPS pulled up with 12 more packages,” one officer said. “We turned to each other and said, ‘If only all our cases could be this easy.’ “

Unfortunately, stars do it all the time

Troubled country singer Mindy McCready has been hospitalized in Florida following a drug overdose.

McCready, 28, was found unconscious Friday in a hotel lobby. The nature of the overdose was not disclosed.

Last week, McCready was charged in Arizona with identity theft and other counts. Within the past two years, she also has faced allegations of driving under the influence and a drug violation involving OxyContin.

She had a No. 1 hit in 1996, “Guys Do It All the Time.”

An honest mistake, no doubt

Finally, this just in: Gwen Stefani has received five nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, not the six originally reported by the Associated Press and repeated here Tuesday.
