Tell us about your star neighbor who’s like family

Steven R. Neuman Staff writer

Sometimes a friend in the neighborhood can seem more like a relative. For those who elicit nicknames like “uncle” or “aunt,” simply by virtue of their personality, a simple thank you is often not even necessary.

But The Spokesman-Review is offering a chance to credit that “relative” in your life who makes a difference in the closest circle of our community – the neighborhood.

The three good neighbors to be honored can be young or old; new arrivals who fixed up an overlooked house; or fixtures of the neighborhood who are the first to welcome the family next door over for dinner.

Our judges will pick three neighbors who personify the best of the best, and reward them with a block party dinner in their honor that your whole neighborhood can appreciate. But we need your help to pick out the gems.

If you know an exceptional person, couple or family who can make you feel like you’re part of their family, let us know. Write to us and don’t skimp on the details.

If you’ve entered before and haven’t been able to give your geographic relation the recognition he or she deserves, then don’t hesitate to enter them again.

Be sure to tell us why they should be the one chosen for acknowledgment. Tell us what they do to help you or others in your neighborhood.

And tell us in 250 words or less before Aug. 11.

While we can choose just one winner from each part of town, we will run a list of all the names we receive.
