Three from area advance in AA Legion

Coeur d’Alene, Lewiston and Sandpoint are all headed to the Junior American Legion state baseball tournament.

Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston play for the top two seeds in today’s final day of the AA Area A district tournament in Coeur d’Alene. CdA must beat Lewiston twice to earn the top seed. Sandpoint is seeded third.

Saturday’s games saw Sandpoint edge Trail, British Columbia, 3-2; Lewiston scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge CdA 15-14; and CdA capped the day with a 13-2 win over Sandpoint.

•Eric Barge and Cole Poland combined on a three-hitter to lead Lewis and Clark to a 2-1 victory over Stanwood at the Junior American Legion state tournament in Chehalis, Wash.

LC used two walks and two Stanwood errors to score both its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In other games, Prairie scored five runs in the top of the seventh to rally past Newport 7-5 and Burlington used a three-run first inning to cruise by West Valley 10-2.

•Yakima, Lakeside Recovery, Curtis and Ridgefield were first-round winners at the Junior ‘A’ American Legion state tournament at Al K. Jackson Field.

Yakima thumped Gonzaga Prep 14-2 and Lakeside Recovery pounded out a 22-6 win over University No. 2. Curtis beat Stanwood 9-3, while Ridgefield scored five times in the fourth en route to an 11-4 victory over U-Hi No. 1.
