Area seniors named to receive $1,500 renewable scholarships

North Idaho seniors were recently named to receive renewable $1,500 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships from the Idaho Board of Education.

The federally funded, state-administered scholarships recognize exceptional high school seniors who demonstrate the potential for continued excellence in the postsecondary educational system.

Students are chosen based on ACT scores, academic achievement, including grade-point average, and faculty ratings.

Maile Yeats, Coeur d’Alene High School; Robert Grigg, Kellogg High School; Carlyle Curlette, Potlatch High School; and Anna Jacobs, Sandpoint High School.

•Lake City High School sophomore Leah Z. Almeida recently served as an ambassador at the Washington State Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar.

HOBY Leadership Seminars provide the opportunity for select high school sophomores to interact with leaders in government, business, education and other professions while gaining an understanding of their own leadership potential and self-development. Seminar attendees are encouraged to return to their communities and perform a minimum of 100 hours of community service within a one year period and are challenged to develop ways to have a positive impact on their homes, communities and country.

•Area undergraduate students were recently named to the dean’s list at Eastern Washington University for winter quarter 2005.

Eligible students must carry a minimum of 12 credits and achieve at least a 3.5 (4.0 scale) grade-point average, which is equivalent to the letter grade “A.”
