PENDLETON, Ore. – Colbert’s Ron Janney fired a 6-under-par 66 Tuesday to take the first-round lead at the 41st Pacific Northwest Senior Men’s Amateur Championship at Wildhorse Resort and Casino.
Under ideal conditions, Janney shot nines of 32-34.
Colville’s Kent Brown carded a 32 on the back nine to shoot 5-under 67 and trail Janney by one stroke.
Spokane’s Jim O’Rourke is tied for third at 69 with Jeff Leinassar of Warrenton, Ore.
Other local competitors included Gene Teigen, Spokane, 72; Craig Ziegler, Spokane, 74; Mike Welling, Hayden Lake, Idaho, 78; Karl Ota, Spokane, 80; and Jerry Traynham, Spokane, 81.
The second round begins at 7:30 a.m. today.
The final round is scheduled for Thursday.
