Coming in Your Money: A teen’s first car

It used to be that newly minted teenage drivers would scrape together a couple hundred dollars and buy a junker for their first car.

Now, however, parents are shouldering a greater share of the costs for their kids’ cars, mostly because they want to be sure their offspring are driving safe vehicles.

Even so, there are lots of tough decisions to be made: should the car be new, used, or a family hand-me-down? And who pays for what?
