AppleSox rally past RiverHawks with 3 late runs

Brent Wyatt’s run-scoring double and Jon Hee’s RBI single highlighted a three-run ninth inning Saturday as the Wenatchee AppleSox rallied for a 6-5 win over the Spokane RiverHawks at Spokane Falls Community College.

Wenatchee (2-0) leads the three-game West Coast Collegiate League series 2-0 heading into today’s 1 p.m. final game at SFCC.

The RiverHawks (2-2) led 5-3 after Will Ayala’s sacrifice fly to center field in the sixth.

Spokane’s Cory Rickard tied the game at 2 with an RBI single in the fourth.

The RiverHawks took a 4-3 lead in the fifth, as Ryan Asato doubled in a run and scored on Aaron Wible’s sacrifice fly.

Spokane starter Scott Parrish (Colfax) allowed three runs and eight hits in eight innings, striking out six. AppleSox starter Brandon Harmon (Gonzaga University/Shadle Park High) gave up eight hits and five earned runs in six innings, with four strikeouts.

Track and field

Bellarmine Prep’s Brie Felnagle, who staged a memorable losing battle in the 800-meter run with Becca Noble of Rogers at the State 4A meet, ran the fifth-fastest girls mile in American prep history but finished second during the Nike Outdoor Nationals at Greensboro, N.C.

Felnagle finished in 4 minutes, 39.71 seconds and nearly caught Tennessee recruit Sarah Bowman (4:36.95) of Warrenton, Va., in the final 200 meters.
