Nez Perce County to allow Sunday sales of alcohol

Associated Press

LEWISTON – The Nez Perce County Commission has voted to allow package liquor sales on Sunday.

Only two objections were raised at Monday’s meeting, where commissioners voted 2-1 to allow Nez Perce to join 21 of Idaho’s 44 counties in allowing the Sunday sales.

Clerk-Auditor Patty O. Weeks brought the resolution to the commission, along with a letter of recommendation from Idaho Liquor Dispensary Superintendent Dyke Nally.

Sunday sales have been successful in most counties that allow them, especially in tourist areas and in border cities, Nally wrote.

Weeks said the county and state would benefit from likely increased liquor sale taxes.

Commissioner Douglas A. Zenner opposed the measure.

“I just thought Sunday was a family day and ought to stay that way,” Zenner said afterward.
