Padres place two onto DL
NOTES
Adam Eaton, the San Diego Padres’ winningest pitcher, went on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday, along with catcher Ramon Hernandez.
To take their roster spots, right-hander Tim Redding was activated from the disabled list and outfielder Paul McAnulty was recalled from Double-A Mobile.
Eaton (9-2) was put on the DL retroactive to last Thursday. He strained the flexor tendon in his right middle finger the night before during his start at Detroit.
Left-hander Darrell May (1-1) is scheduled to start in Eaton’s spot on Friday against Seattle.
Hernandez was placed on the DL retroactive to Saturday. He injured his left wrist sliding back to first base Friday at Minnesota.
“Bruce Bochy, the winningest manager in Padres’ history, agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension.
Bochy is 821-852 in 11 seasons with San Diego. He led the Padres to N.L. West titles in 1996 and 1998, and to the World Series in 1998, where they were swept by the New York Yankees.
Angels’ Finley goes on DL
The Los Angeles Angels placed center fielder Steve Finley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, with a strained right shoulder.
Finley, 40, has been fighting shoulder problems since April 6, when he collided with the 8-foot fence trying to leap for Alfonso Soriano’s tiebreaking home run in the 12th inning of a 3-2 loss to Texas.
The five-time Gold Glove winner is hitting .225 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs in 65 games.
To fill Finley’s roster spot, the Angels activated outfielder Curtis Pride from the DL.
All-Star coaches selected
Detroit’s Alan Trammell and Oakland’s Ken Macha were selected as coaches for the American League in next month’s All-Star game by Boston manager Terry Francona.
San Francisco’s Felipe Alou and Milwaukee’s Ned Yost were picked as the N.L. coaches by St. Louis manager Tony La Russa.
