Snowbird resort marks longest ski season

Associated Press

SNOWBIRD, Utah – The skiing is still good high in the Wasatch range, where Snowbird resort is marking its longest season in more than three decades of operation – two months after other Utah ski resorts called it quits.

The snow was pasty and a little sticky with temperatures hitting the 60s Thursday, but there’s still plenty of it – about 8 feet on the upper mountain.

“All I have to say is, ‘Wow – this is incredible,’ ” Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon said while standing atop 11,000-foot Hidden Peak against a stunning backdrop of jagged, snowcapped mountains.

“How many mayors can say they have something like this as part of their terrain?” Corroon asked. “I’m wondering why I’m wearing a suit.”

Snowbird’s season began Nov. 5.
