Previous Kootenai Canvas: English Point trail
Kathy Salvadore wrote the winning essay (for her dog Acacia) that correctly identified last week’s Kootenai Canvas, which was a photo of the foot bridge along the English Point trail system on the edge of Hayden Lake.
As soon as Mom showed me the picture of the Kootenai Canvas, my tail started to wag! Of course I know that spot! It’s the Rabbit Run trail at English Point. I call EP “extended play” time since it’s all fun and games for a Labrador retriever like me!
Mom and I enjoy EP almost daily. She is training for the Coeur d’Alene Ironman and likes the soft trails and peacefulness of the woods. We are often delighted when we spot other creatures on the trail. Besides other dogs and horses, we have seen deer, moose, wild turkeys, rabbits and a bear!
When I see the bridge in the picture, I race to my favorite watering hole. Even though Mom tries to stop me from swimming in the stinky pond, I can’t resist on hot sunny days. Then I roll in the brush and race off chasing all the numerous smells only a dog can appreciate!
Our favorite time of year to enjoy this beautiful spot is in the winter after a fresh snow. Mom will run or cross-country ski and I love to dig and roll in the fresh powder. The serenity and tranquility are deeply appreciated. This is truly a magical spot enjoyed by many for their own personal reasons. I hope this is never ruined!
