Just think of them as clothes with moral fabric

ROCK SINGER TURNED world political activist Bono has another new gig: fashion. Fresh from U2’s induction Monday into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he’s promoting the new clothing line Edun.

The collection, which grew out of Bono’s many trips to Africa, is co-designed by his wife, Ali Hewson.

Produced in such places as Peru and Tunisia, its goal is to provide sustainable employment in developing areas of the world.

Each pair of jeans says: “We carry the story of the people who make our clothes around with us.”

“This is the fashion equivalent of mothers looking at the back of a can to see what exactly she’s going to feed to her kids,” says Bono.

“The only demand Ali made on me was that I didn’t get involved in the fashion!” he added with a laugh. “I’m here to try to get the sound on the radio, if you know what I mean.”

It’s a foot thing

Speaking of fashion, a New York shoe shop owner has designed a special pair of pumps and loafers for Martha Stewart – to hide the ankle bracelet she has to wear during her five-month home arrest.

No. 3? Oui, oui, oui

Raspy-voiced rocker Rod Stewart proposed to his longtime girlfriend at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

“I left it this long because I wanted to get it right this time,” Stewart, 60, said of his five-year relationship with 33-year-old Penny Lancaster.

The couple will make wedding plans once Stewart’s divorce from model Rachel Hunter is finalized. He was previously married to Alana Stewart.

Guess it went downhill

“Sideways” director Alexander Payne and his actress wife Sandra Oh, who co-starred in the Oscar-nominated film, have announced their separation.

The couple met five years ago and married in 2003.

The charge: assault and batteries

Former “Baywatch” actress Alexandra Paul was arrested Monday during a vigil intended to save General Motors’ EV1 electric cars.

Paul and another woman were in a car that blocked the path of trucks hauling the cars from a facility in Burbank, Calif., to Arizona to be destroyed. GM says the cars never became popular enough to turn a profit.

Speech is free, and so is she

A Manhattan judge has dismissed charges against actress Rosario Dawson and two others who were arrested while filming near last year’s Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden.

The trio had been shooting scenes for “This Revolution,” an independent film about political protest, when they were arrested last Aug. 29 along with hundreds of anti-GOP demonstrators.

Police said Dawson was wearing two handkerchiefs on her face with only her eyes showing and that her group had refused to move when told to do so.
