Dugout collapse leaves four players with minor injuries
AUSTIN, Texas – Four Texas softball players were hurt Saturday when part of the team’s dugout collapsed during a game against Kansas.
Tina Boutelle, Desiree Williams, Amy Bradford and Alexis Garcia were taken to St. David’s Medical Center and released about three hours later.
All had ankle sprains and abrasions to their lower legs, school officials said.
The players were standing on a bench inside the dugout during the second inning when the bench and part of a cinderblock wall that supported it gave way, Texas spokeswoman Barb Kowal said.
Maintenance crews planned to examine the dugout to determine why the bench fell, school spokesman Nick Voinis said.
The roof did not fall.
The game, which had been earlier delayed by rain, was subsequently canceled.
