Zags women”s varsity 8 wins Grand Final race
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs women’s varsity 8 rowing team won the Grand Final at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship on Lake Natoma.
Gonzaga finished the 2,000-meter race in 6 minutes, 45.7 seconds. Loyola Marymount (6:48.1) was second. The victory helped Gonzaga clinch its ninth straight West Coast Conference tile. The Bulldogs have won the title every year since its inception in 1997.
The Bulldogs women’s varsity 4 boat finished third in its Grand Final with a time of 7:46.5. Saint Mary’s clocked a 7:40.0 to win the race.
The Gonzaga men’s varsity 8 placed fourth in their Grand Final with a time of 6:06.9. UC Davis won the race with a time of 6:02.7. Washington State (6:12.7) was last in the six-boat finale.
Washington State placed third in the men’s varsity 4 Grand Final with a time of 7:10.4. UC Santa Barbara (7:00.5) was first, followed by Sacramento State (7:07.2).
The Cougars placed fifth overall in the points rankings. There were 29 schools at the event.
