Heinzen goal gives EV key soccer victory

Dan Heinzen kept East Valley atop the Greater Spokane League boys’ soccer standings, putting a cross off the heel of a Lewis and Clark defender and into the goal in a 1-0 overtime win Monday at LC.

Knights goalkeeper Josh Peck had five saves in his ninth shutout.

EV is in a three-way tie for the GSL lead with Central Valley and Mt. Spokane with 10-2 records, but holds the tiebreaker by having beaten the other two. The Knights can clinch the title with a win in Friday’s season finale at Clarkston.

CV and Mt. Spokane stayed in the hunt with wins Monday. After University’s Dustin Aarestad tied the match at 1 in the seventh minute, Josh Antles scored in the 10th to give the Bears a 2-1 win at U-Hi. … Nick Reilly set up a pair of Jordan Marshall goals as Mt. Spokane won 2-0 at North Central. NC’s Jared Flood had 14 saves in the loss. … Ferris stayed a game out of first with a 2-0 home win over Clarkston. Eric Burke scored both goals and keeper D.J. Bray earned his fifth shutout. … Rogers’ Admir Rasic scored goals two minutes apart, but Andy Largent‘s hat trick gave Shadle Park a 3-2 win at Rogers. … Gonzaga Prep blitzed West Valley with three goals in eight minutes in a 3-1 win at WV. Matt Wakeley scored twice for G-Prep. … John Anderson and Austin Hatcher scored two minutes apart in Mead’s 2-0 win over visiting Cheney.

•Mead’s match at CV, scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Boys golf

Ferris defeated University in a sudden-death playoff to win the 25-team Inland Empire Invitational at Spokane Country Club. Clarkston’s Joel Dahmen was medalist by a stroke with a 3-under-par 69.

Girls golf

Mead’s Amy Eneroth shot a 7-under-par 66 at Downriver to win her third GSL match of the season, a six-stroke margin over Gonzaga Prep’s Annie Brophy. Lewis and Clark, with three players in the top seven, beat Mead by three strokes.
