Homers lead Post Falls to softball sweep
Erika Willy and Rachel Johnson each hit home runs in a 16-run second inning as Post Falls took the first game of an Inland Empire League softball doubleheader 23-4 at Sandpoint.
Heather Glaze, who also went deep for the Trojans (14-8, 11-5 IEL) in game one, went 4 for 5, while Amy Musch batting 4 for 4.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs (2-19, 0-18) still had no answer for the Trojans, who hit three more homers in a 16-11 win. Willy was 5 for 5 with a triple, two home runs, including a three-run shot to break the game open in the fourth, and six RBIs. Haley Rowland added five RBIs, batting 4 for 4 with a two-run homer in the first.
Idaho golf
Lewiston placed four players in the top 10, defeating Post Falls by five strokes in the boys’ Lake City Invitational at the Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course.
David Nuhn took medalist honors for Moscow, shooting 4-under 68 to defeat Sandpoint’s Joey Lovell by four strokes. Matt Solem led the Bengals with a 75 to finish third, while Zach and Travis Broughton each shot 77 for the Trojans to round out the top five.
On the girls’ side, Lewiston was even more dominant, placing four players in the top nine and defeating Moscow by 21 strokes. Post Falls medalist Jenna Fetters shot 86 to defeat Coeur d’Alene’s Vanessa Borsheim by two strokes.
Washington boys golf
Ferris defeated University in a sudden-death playoff to take the 25-team Inland Empire Invitational at Spokane Country Club. Clarkston’s Joel Dahmen took medalist honors by one stroke with a 3-under-par 69.
Washington girls golf
Mead’s Amy Eneroth shot a 7-under 66 to take medalist honors in a GSL match at Downriver. Eneroth defeated Gonzaga Prep’s Annie Brophy by six strokes to win her third GSL match of the season.
