Northern Quest to host boxing event

The Spokesman-Review

Northern Quest Casino will host its third nationally broadcast professional boxing card May 24.

The casino, which held its first boxing event in December, welcomes ESPN2 back for the third time in 2005, barely a month after the casino’s most recent “Friday Night Fights” event.

The Tuesday night card will be headlined by a battle between Teddy “Two Gun” Reid and Rodney “Smooth” Jones – a fight originally scheduled for the casino’s January card.

Reid fought fill-in light middleweight Eduardo Sanchez in January, winning on a seventh-round TKO.

Jones (35-3-0, 22 knockouts) currently is the NABF super welterweight champion while Reid (23-6-1, 17 knockouts) holds that division’s interim championship, which was created specifically for the Reid-Sanchez fight in January.

The Tuesday night fight will unify the title.

The semi main event features USBA junior featherweight champion Artyom Simonyan (14-1-1, 7 knockouts) defending his belt against former world champion Agapito “El Cicion” Sanchez (34-11-3 (17 knockouts).

Doors open at 4 p.m., with the first fight to begin an hour later.
