Pope”s former car nets $244,000 online

DUESSELDORF, Germany – A six-year-old Volkswagen sold for nearly a quarter of a million dollars Thursday after word emerged that it might have once belonged the new pope.

The gray hatchback Golf sold on the eBay auction site for about $244,000, eBay said.

The seller, Benjamin Halbe, 21, from the western German town of Olpe, said he bought the car for just under $13,000 in January, when Pope Benedict XVI was still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.
