Washington State dropped the final game of its three-game, non-conference baseball series with Sacramento State 6-5 Monday in Pullman.

The Hornets (19-30) scored three times after two were out in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead, then right-hander Travis Kane (3-4) from Wenatchee and two relievers made it stand up.

Jay Miller and Jeff Miller split four hits and four RBIs for WSU (20-28) while leadoff hitter Kaeo Rubin added three hits.

Men’s basketball

Tim Walker, assistant men’s basketball coach at Lewis-Clark State College the last four years, has been selected to take over the Warriors program.

Walker, who was head coach at Montana State-Northern from 1997-2001 before joining the LCSC staff, replaces George Pfeifer, who left the position after 16 seasons to accept an assistant coaching position at the University of Idaho.

In Walker’s time at LCSC, the Warriors compiled a 103-34 record and made the NAIA national tournament three times. He was 72-55 at MSU-Northern and one of his teams advanced to the NAIA Sweet 16.

Walker was selected from a field of three finalists that also included former LCSC assistant Tim Swanson, now golf coach at Treasure Valley Community College, and Todd Eisner, head coach at Bellevue University in Nebraska.
