Skills center students medal at state meet

The following students from the Spokane Skills Center received awards from the Washington state SkillsUSA competition:

Gold medal winners are Christopher Carr, Automotive Service Technology; Denali Tufto, Commercial Baking and Mathew Lee, Criminal Justice.

Silver medal winners are Drew Knapp, Collision Repair Technology; Gino Cushen and Alex Magana, Televison/Video Production.

Bronze medal winners are Branden Moreau, Culinary Arts and Brittney Taylor, Criminal Justice.

CA denotes Certificate of Award.

Piano Division

Addition to Class 53.1, Quick Study, Senior (12th grade and below): CA, Silver, Rachel Wagley.

String Division

Class 6, Concerto, Level 1: CA, Gold, Anna Burgess; CA, Silver, Rebekah Torkelson; Silver, Joseph Loftus, Rachel Schueller.

Class 3, Solo, Level 2: CA, Gold, Matthew Hu; CA, Silver, Annie Wang.

Class 6, Concerto, Level 1: CA, Gold, Ryan Jacobsen; CA, Silver, Stetson Steiger; Silver, Catherine Paul, Madeline Mixter, Rachel Witthuhn.

“ The Spokane Regional Plan Center has awarded scholarships to the following students for the 2005-2006 academic school year:

$1,500 to Paul Gu; $1,000 to Kyle Lepper; and $500 to: Corbin Anderson, Ashley Atkinson, Christopher Bozo, Katherine Butler, Mary Hansen, Jessica Hilpert, Julie Holbert, Mary Kienholz, Jaclyn Rouse, Matthew Sather, Seth Sather, Renee Starkey, Korie Talbot, Blake Walker and Kelly Warner.

Kyle Robinson has been named a Carol Read Scholar and was awarded $3,500 for summer study and research. Robinson, a junior at the University of Puget Sound, is the son of Phil and Sue Robinson of Spokane. He graduated from Mead High School in 2002.

Danielle Hyatt of Spokane, a junior at Duke University, was recently awarded the Albert C. Jacobs, Phi 1921 scholarship for the 2005-2006 academic year from The Psi Upsilon Foundation.

SaraEllen Hutchison graduated cum laude from Georgia State University College of Law and passed the Washington Bar Exam. Hutchison graduated from Ferris High School in 1996 and from Eastern Washington University in 1999.

Joshua Roath, a student at Deer Park High School, has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. His project was to put in a sidewalk and wheelchair ramp at Clayton Grange in Clayton, Wash.

“ Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Unit WA-2001 at Rogers High School has been selected as one of 200 units to receive the 2004-2005 Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit Award.

Elizabeth Kleweno graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine. She is a 1997 graduate of Ferris High School and a 2000 gradaute of Washington State University.

Kirsten Cooper, a student at the University of Findlay in Ohio, was named a Senior Scholar, which recognizes graduating seniors with a grade-point average of 3.6 or above. A 2001 graduate of the Orme High School, Cooper is the daughter of Debbie Cooper of Spokane.
