Wine tastings will aid nonprofit groups’ efforts

Enjoy a great local wine at one of the wine-tasting events held in the next few weeks to benefit local charities.

• The first “A Toast to Your Health” wine tasting and auction, sponsored by the Spokane Association of Health Underwriters, will be Thursday.

In addition to offering Arbor Crest wine, the event will feature food, music, and silent and live auctions from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Arbor Crest Winery, 4705 N. Fruit Hill Road.

Tickets are $75.

Proceeds will benefit four area charities geared toward helping the underinsured and uninsured. Organizations include the Health Improvement Partnership, Community Health Association of Spokane, Christ Clinic and Project Access.

• The Parkinson’s Regional Center will host a wine tasting to help provide education and support to area residents and families afflicted with the disease.

Guests are invited to the Spokane Racquet Club reception room, 1903 S. Dearborn St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A suggested donation of $25 is requested for the June 9 event.

The evening will include an assortment of appetizers, desserts and wine from the Townshend Cellar. In addition, guests will receive a Riedel magnum red wine glass.

A meal and a show for education

Join the Sheridan Elementary School Parent Teacher Association’s Playground Fund-Raising Committee for an evening of spaghetti and entertainment to help the group’s efforts to replace the school’s playground equipment.

A spaghetti dinner catered by Country Catering and Concession will be served at the school, 3737 E. Fifth Ave., from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Silent auction items will be up for bid from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and the production of “Spam On 5th,” will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The show will include skits from the “The Three Little Pigs,” “Cinderella” and Rumplestiltskin,” performed by Sheridan Elementary students and staff.

Tickets for Friday’s event are $6 for adults and $4 for children. Dessert will be available for 50 cents.

Walk for cerebral palsy

The third annual Walk-a-thon for children with cerebral palsy, hosted by the Brenden Kinney Foundation, will be Saturday.

The walk along the Centennial Trail will begin at the Fort Wright Cemetery Trailhead from 10 a.m. to noon.

Garage sale for Christmas Cheer Day

The Has Beens and Gonna Bees will host a garage sale at 812 E. Rockwell Ave. Friday through next Sunday.

Proceeds from the sale will go toward Christmas Cheer Day 2005, a Christmas celebration for low-income families and disabled or elderly people in the Spokane area.

Items will be for sale between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. all three days.
