Reward offered to help capture suspect in U.S. Bank robbery

From staff reports

Months after a Spokane Valley bank was robbed, police are still hunting for a suspect.

Now, Secret Witness is getting involved, offering a $1,000 reward for tips leading to the robber’s arrest.

The robbery took place Aug. 29, when a white man about 6 feet tall with short gray hair approached a teller at U.S. Bank., 9208 E. Sprague Ave. The man, who shielded his eyes with sunglasses, and his hairstyle with a navy blue baseball cap, handed the teller a note asking for money. He never pulled a gun. No one was injured during the robbery.

The teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash who then fled.

Days later, investigators found an exploded dye pack and some dye-stained bills not far from the bank.

Police suspect the dye pack, commonly used by banks to thwart robbers, exploded in the suspect’s car. Investigators are hopeful someone has noticed the dye on the man’s car and his clothes. They believe the man wore a light-weight, navy blue jacket and a white shirt during the robbery.

Secret Witnesses can be contacted at (509) 327-5111. Callers do not have to give their names to get the reward.

Identity theft suspect arrested

A man suspected of stealing the identities of several women was arrested last week while driving a stolen car.

Joshua David Fleming, 25, was arrested Nov. 16 for driving a Toyota Camry without the owner’s permission. While arresting Fleming, Spokane Valley Police Officer Sara Riojas also recovered Social Security cards, driver’s licenses, and medical cards belonging to three women other than the car’s owner.

The Camry, recovered behind a Zip Trip gas station at Sprague Avenue and University Road, had been stolen Nov. 15 from a Spokane residence.

Police describe Fleming as a transient, who also had outstanding warrants for drunken driving, violating probation and escaping county custody.

Reward offered in car thefts

Secret Witness is offering a cash reward for tips about a suspected Spokane Valley car thief who police believe stole more than 20 cars this year.

Ryan J. Hennessy, 30, is wanted for a single charge of first-degree vehicle theft. However, in earlier interviews with police, Hennessy allegedly admitted to stealing more than 20 cars this year, primarily in Spokane Valley.

Hennessy is white, about 6-foot-2, and 220 pounds. His last known address was 1321 N. Felts Road in Spokane Valley.

Secret Witness can be contacted at (509) 327-5111. Callers do not have to give their names to win the reward.

Copper wire stolen

Someone stole $1,200 worth of copper wiring from a Spokane Valley construction site Nov. 16.

Pacific Electric told police that four spools of wire were stolen from a construction site at 600 S. Woodruff Road. Included in the stolen goods were two spools of No. 8 Roll-Max copper wire and two rolls of No. 2 SER aluminum wire.

Police say wire thefts are on the rise this year by thieves who take the wire to recycling centers for cash.
