Gonzaga women win 5th straight

Gonzaga tied a program record with its fifth straight win as the Bulldogs defeated the Idaho Vandals 3-1 in a non-conference women’s soccer match at Martin Field on Friday.

Lori Conrad, Cristin Leverson and Nanda McCormick all scored for Gonzaga (7-2-1), and Beth Drollinger provided two assists as GU dealt Idaho (2-8) its sixth straight loss.

•Cyeeta Mott scored on a pass from Beth Russell in the 25th minute as Eastern Washington defeated Montana 1-0 in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.

Junior Tiera Como (East Valley) had four saves to earn her second straight shutout for the Eagles (2-6-2). Montana (2-6-1) outshot Eastern 19-9.

•Alix Rustrum scored two goals and Haley Thompson-Miller added a goal and two assists to give Washington State a 4-0 non-conference win over San Francisco at Pullman.

Katie Hultin needed just four saves for the shutout as the Cougars (6-3-1) held the Dons (2-9) to five shots.

Volleyball

Addie Webster’s 12 kills and 10 digs led Eastern Washington to a 3-0 sweep of Northern Arizona (2-11, 1-2) in Big Sky Conference play at Reese Court in Cheney.

Ashley Jensen added 11 kills for the Eagles (10-4, 2-1), who outhit the Lumberjacks .380 to minus-.048.

•Kim Glass had 16 kills and 10 digs, and Kristina Baum added 14 kills and 11 digs as No. 13 Arizona (11-1, 3-0) swept Washington State in Pac-10 play at Bohler Gym in Pullman.

Te’Ara Epps led the Cougars (7-8, 0-2) with 13 kills and five blocks.

•Christal Morrison and Sanja Tomasevic each had 14 kills as second-ranked Washington (11-0, 2-0) swept Arizona State (6-7, 1-2) in Pac-10 play at Seattle.

•Natalie Danielson (CC Spokane) had 16 kills and five blocks to lead No. 24 Whitworth (8-2, 4-0 Northwest Conference) to a four-game victory over Puget Sound (6-2, 3-1) at Tacoma.

Julie Marsh (Cheney) added a double-double for the Pirates with 14 kills and 12 digs.

•Community Colleges of Spokane won all three pool-play matches at the Lower Columbia Crossover Tournament at Longview, Wash., sweeping Mt. Hood and Everett and defeating Clackamas in three games.

Meagan Stanley led the Sasquatch with nine kills and Andrea Light added 28 assists against Mt. Hood, while Amanda Cochran had 10 kills against Everett.

Men’s soccer

Junior Ybarra scored on a give-and-go from Nick Blanco, giving Loyola Marymount (3-2-2, 1-0) a 2-1 victory over host Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams at Martin Field.

Nick Heinrichs evened the match for the Zags (2-4-2, 0-1) in the 28th minute on a cross-field shot into the left corner.

Hockey

Ryan Skier stopped 67 shots as the Spokane Braves skated to a 3-all tie with host Nelson (British Columbia) in KIJHL play.

•The Spokane Flyers fell to the host Tri-City Titans 3-2 in double overtime in Northern Pacific Hockey League play.
