Bulldogs beat Aggies

Matt Kubik threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns to lead Louisiana Tech to a 34-14 win over New Mexico State Saturday night in Ruston, La., in the Aggies’ first game in the Western Athletic Conference.

The Aggies (0-5, 0-1) joined the WAC earlier this year after leaving the Sun Belt Conference.

The Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0) jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead and NMSU didn’t score until there was just 1:05 left in the game. The Aggies recovered the ball after an onside kick and Jeremiah Williams carried it in from 9 yards out. Backup QB Royal Gill hurled a 21-yard TD pass to A.J. Harris with 19 seconds left.

Kubik, who went 12 for 28, connected with tight end Anthony Harrison for both of his touchdown passes. The two combined for a 3-yard scoring pass in the first half and an 8-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

Nevada 30, San Jose St. 23

Robert Hubbard hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Rowe with 3:39 remaining in the game to give the Wolf Pack a victory over the Spartans.

Jared Strubeck’s 39-yard field pull the Spartans even with 6:25 left.

B.J. Mitchell rushed carried the ball 23 times for 114 yards and a score for Nevada.
