Ferris boys place third at Sunfair

Ferris got three first-place finishers en route to a third-place boys team finish at the 3-mile Sunfair Invitational cross country meet at Franklin Park in Yakima on Saturday.

Pat Maloney won flight 4 in a time of 16 minutes, 41 seconds, David Hickerson won flight 5 in 16:22 and Steve Olsen won flight 6 in 15:56 as the Saxons finished with 28 points, just eight behind Flathead (Mont.) in the boys’ results.

On the 4A girls’ side, Mead got a third-place finish in flight 1 from Sara Stenersen as the Panthers finished with 73 points. Thousand Oaks (Calif.) won the team title with 36 points.

Among 3A girls, East Valley was third with 87 points, 24 behind first-place Bellevue.

Colville got a sixth-place finish from Ryan Cloke (16:30) in flight 6 en route to a team victory in the 2A/1A/B boys’ division.

The Indians finished with 87 points, 20 ahead of second-place East Valley-Yakima.

For the 2A/1A/B girls, Riverside finished second with 161 points, 10 behind EV-Yakima.

Nick Atwood of East Valley won the individual race, but West Valley’s boys took the team title at the Spokane Valley Classic at Plantes Ferry Park. Atwood finished in 15:48 while West Valley’s boys, led by a fourth-place finish from Richard Keroack (16:32), finished with 72 points to win the team title. Among girls, WV’s Larson Agee (19:29) won the individual title, but North Central had three runners in the top five en route to a team title. NC finished with 60 points.
