Idaho’s Olson takes first at Bowles Invitational

Dee Olson took first as Idaho’s women took sixth at the Charles Bowles Invitational Cross Country Meet at Willamette University in Salem, Ore.

Olson finished the 5,000-meter course in a time of 17:01.50 as Idaho finished with 151 team points. Washington finished first with 55 points.

Gonzaga’s women, led by Emily Buck’s 96th-place finish (19:22.80), finished 14th with 416 points.

On the men’s side, Idaho’s Kevin Friesen (24:44.60) finished 30th as the Vandals took eighth with 222 points. Portland took first with 36 points.

Gonzaga, which didn’t field a full team, was led by Colby Litzenberger, who finished 74th in a time of 26:08.40.

•Haley Paul led six Cougars in the top 10 as Washington State’s women won the University of Montana Invitational.

Paul (21:24.28) finished the 6,000-meter course 28 seconds ahead of Sandpoint grad Allie Brosh, who runs for Montana. WSU finished with 31 team points, eight ahead of Weber State.

Holly Evans led Eastern’s women with a 12th-place finish., checking in at 22:45, two seconds ahead of teammate Camille Bigg (22:47). The Eagles took fifth with 112 points.

For the men, Woody Favingen (25:06) finished the 8,000-meter course second as the Cougars took first with 42 points, seven ahead of Weber State.

Eastern’s Paul Limpf was eighth (25:22) and John Timeus ninth (25:25) as the Eagles finished third with 72 points.

College men’s soccer

Skye Henderson scored in the third minute and Sean Lambrecht converted a penalty kick 20 minutes later as No. 11 Whitworth (7-1-1, 4-0-1) upended Puget Sound (3-1-2, 2-1-1) 2-1 in Northwest Conference action in Tacoma.

College women’s soccer

Five different players scored for Dixie State as North Idaho (6-5, 3-3) fell 5-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference action in St. George, Utah.

•Erin Williams registered her sixth consecutive shutout as No. 11 Puget Sound (6-1, 5-0) beat Whitworth (3-3-2, 2-2-1) 3-0 in NWC action in Tacoma.

•Katie Blood and Alexis DeLeo scored in the first half as Spokane (8-2-3, 5-1-3) tied Walla Walla 2-2 in NWAACC action in Walla Walla.

Motor sports

Events scheduled at Stateline Speedway were cancelled due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled.
