LET THE COUCH-JUMPING begin: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are expecting a baby.

Holmes’ pregnancy was reported Wednesday by People magazine. The couple have been dating since April and became engaged in June, but have not yet set a wedding date.

“Tom and Katie are very excited, and the entire family is very excited,” Lee Anne DeVette, Cruise’s spokeswoman, told People.

DeVette added that Holmes, 26, “has never felt better.”

It would be Holmes’ first child. Cruise, 43, has two adopted children, Connor, 10, and Isabella, 12, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.

Cruise was widely ridiculed for his excited, couch-hopping antics on Oprah Winfrey‘s show in June when he announced his love for the former “Dawson’s Creek” star.

According to the Star tabloid, Cruise, a die-hard Scientologist, wants to have their wedding at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Center in Los Angeles, while Holmes has her heart set on a resort on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, where she, Cruise and his kids spent five days in May.

A new queen for the king

Meanwhile, it’s a girl for “King of Queens” star Kevin James.

James’ wife, Steffiana, gave birth to the couple’s first child, Sienna-Marie, on Friday. The couple were married in June 2004.

In addition to starring in the CBS sitcom, James, 40, played a bumbling suitor in the Will Smith film “Hitch.”

The truth? We wouldn’t hazard a guess

In the wake of yet another media report about their marriage breaking up, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are insisting that they’re still together – for now, anyway.

Us Weekly magazine, without naming sources, reported Wednesday that the pop-star spouses had separated over the weekend.

“Nick and Jessica have not separated,” said a statement issued on behalf of the couple. “Rumors to the contrary are simply not true.”

Us Weekly said it stands by its story.

The other Paris isn’t burning mad

Paris Hilton‘s dumped fiancé, Paris Latsis, has nothing but kind words for the hotel heiress/reality show star.

She is “the most incredible woman I have ever met in my life,” Latsis, 22, said in a brief statement.

Hilton, 24, announced over the weekend that she had ended their four-month engagement because she’s “not ready for marriage” and didn’t want it to end in divorce.

And Stone isn’t casting any

Sharon Stone is the latest celebrity to come to the defense of supermodel Kate Moss, who’s embroiled in a cocaine controversy.

The 31-year-old Moss lost contracts with H&M, Burberry and Chanel after photos of her allegedly snorting cocaine in a London music studio were published in the Daily Mirror tabloid last month. She’s reportedly in an Arizona rehab clinic.

“I think it is really terrific that someone makes a mistake, takes responsibility for it and deals with it,” says Stone, the new face of a Christian Dior skin-care line.

“Growing up, from being a child or young girl in the public eye, is a tremendously difficult, painful procedure so I don’t think it is that dramatic of a deal to fail, to make a mistake, fix your life and go on in public.”
