Trees stop tour bus from rolling off bank

Associated Press

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. – Trees kept a tour bus with 47 people on board from rolling over an embankment after it collided with a car on an icy road, the National Park Service said Thursday.

None of the 46 passengers and driver on the bus was hurt in the accident about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday. Three people in the car suffered bruises and contusions and were treated and released from a clinic in Mammoth Hot Springs, according to the Park Service.

The accident happened when the car traveling east toward Tower Junction hit a patch of ice and went out of control. The car hit the front driver’s side of the oncoming tour bus, which is owned by Arrow Stage Lines of Nebraska. The trees that prevented the bus from rolling over blocked the bus door, and all the passengers and driver had to be pulled through the driver’s window, the Park Service said.

The tour bus was transporting a tour group from Group Voyagers, Inc. of Littleton, Colo., and began in Littleton on Sunday, entering the park on Wednesday.
