Spokane Arts Award winners named

The Spokane Arts Commission has named the recipients of this year’s City of Spokane Arts Awards. The winners will be honored at Monday night’s Spokane City Council meeting, with a pre-meeting reception starting at 5 p.m. in the lower level of City Hall. Winners include:

“Bold Strokes Award: Nike Imoru, Interplayers.

“Artist Award: The creators of “York,” Susan Hardie, Bryan Harnetiaux and David Casteal.

“Arts Organization: Actor’s Repertory Theatre .

“Arts in Education Program: Rob Tapper, trombone and instrumental jazz professor at Eastern Washington University; and Kristina Ploeger, artistic director of the Spokane Area Children’s Choir.

“Individual Benefactor: Mitch Silver.

“Arts Community Leader: The Shop on South Perry, Mark Camp, Robert Hartwig and Jason Williams.

“Business Benefactor: Spokane Rotary 21 club.

“Honorable mentions: The Ronald McDonald House (for the “Bear Necessities” public art program); Spokane Symphony.

Seattle Art Museum tour

Spokane Parks and Recreation is offering a group tour of the Tiffany glass exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum on Oct. 22.

Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of the founder of Tiffany & Co. jewelers, started his glassmaking business in 1885 and won renown for his designs and processes. Vases, windows, mosaics and lamps are featured in the Seattle exhibit.

The group will leave at 7:30 a.m. from the Corbin Arts Center, 507 W. Seventh Ave., and will return to the same location at 9:30 p.m. that evening. The cost is $64.

Call for artists

“The City of Sandpoint Arts Commission is looking for professional artists to submit proposals for public art in conjunction with the new clock tower in Farmin Park.

The deadline for proposals is Oct. 21. Total project budget is $10,000.

“The Moses Lake Museum and Art Center is seeking applied art and original crafts from artists in Washington state and Oregon for its annual Holiday Show and Sale.

Interested artists should send three to five slides or electronic images of current work with a brief written description and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the museum at P.O. Box 1579, Moses Lake, WA 98837, or e-mail the information to tmulkey@ci.moses-lake.wa.us.

Submission deadline is Saturday. The show will run Nov. 18 through Dec. 31.

Auditions

Ignite Community Theatre is holding auditions for “An Evening of Short Plays by David Ives” on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Cajun Room of the Rendezvous Events Facility, 1003 E. Trent Ave.

Plays included in the Booklight Reader’s Theatre program are “English Made Simple,” “Arabian Nights,” Captive Audience” and “Seven Menus.”

Needed are about 12 readers age 18 and older. The performance will be Nov. 11 at Auntie’s Bookstore.

Ignite also is offering a class on stage management for ages 16 and older Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, also in the Cajun Room. Scott Finlayson and Rebecca Cook will explain the duties of community theater stage managers. The cost is $25.
