Dog found hanging from CdA bridge

From staff reports

Coeur d’Alene Police are investigating a case of animal cruelty after a bicyclist on the Centennial Trail found a dog hanging from a bridge Saturday.

The bicyclist called police and said she saw a dog or goat hanging from beneath an Interstate 90 bridge that crosses railroad tracks between Atlas and Ramsey roads. According to police reports, the dog was hanging from a rope that had been thrown over concrete supports.

The male dog wasn’t wearing tags and was not neutered, according to police.

Debi Slater, an animal control officer and manager of the Coeur d’Alene Animal Shelter, said it is one of the worst animal cruelty cases she’s seen in the city.

Slater said the canine may have been a black Labrador and Australian shepherd mix, less than a year old. She said it weighed about 20 pounds.

The shelter has some reports of missing dogs that match that description, Slater said. She plans to contact those people to see if she can find the dog’s owner.

Coeur d’Alene Police Sgt. Christie Wood said that there are no suspects in the case and that anyone with information should call the police tip line at (208) 769-2296.

In addition, Slater asked anyone who is missing a dog matching the description of the one that was killed to contact the animal shelter at (208) 665-7379.
