Paul, Hayes shoot Eagles to soccer win

Callie Paul and Ashley Hayes each scored goals in a shootout as Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) defeated Riverside 2-1 in a Great Northern League girls soccer match at Riverside.

Moriah Beeler put the Eagles (5-6, 4-3) ahead on a free kick in the 51st minute, then Randi Hollen answered for the Rams (6-4, 5-2) with a free kick in the 70th.

In other GNL action, Anika and Maja Willoughby scored in the first half and Janelle Rainer hit the winning goal in the 68th minute to lead Colville to a 4-2 win over host Chewelah. Carly Gauche also scored for Colville (4-5, 2-5), while Ashley King had 17 saves for the Cougars (1-9, 0-7). … An own goal in the fifth minute proved to be the winning goal, but four more Pullman players scored in a 5-0 win at Medical Lake. Cory Druffel, Sami Johnson, Anna Albrecht and Kendra Heim scored for the Greyhounds (10-1), whose defense allowed only two shots by the Cardinals (4-6, 3-4).

Cross country

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) swept team and individual honors over host Riverside and Chewelah in a Great Northern League meet at Bear Lake State Park. Max Reeder won the boys race for the Eagles, covering the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 6 seconds. Kayloni Jones won the girls race in 19:57, defeating Stephanie Dye of Riverside by 34 seconds. … Ken Dragoo (18:05) finished second to lead a strong Pullman team effort in a boys victory over Medical Lake at The Fairways Golf Course. David Jacob won the 5,000 meter race for the Cardinals in 17:48. Medical Lake took four of the top five spots in the girls race for the team victory. Yara Nouisser of Pullman won in 21:28. … Led by Justin Rose‘s time of 17:23, the Colville boys swept the top five spots and defeated Deer Park at the new 3.1-mile Deer Park High School course. Brittney Williams (20:48) and Nikkol Sipes (20:49) finished 1-2 and led Colville to victory in the girls race.

Volleyball

Caitlin McGrane had 18 kills, 15 digs and five aces, two of which led a key seven-point run in the decisive fifth game as Colville defeated visiting Riverside 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 15-12 in a Great Northern League match. Jordan Emmil added 41 assists for the Indians (5-3), while Kayla Newberg led the Rams (3-4) with 28 kills and four blocks. … Kelli Tikker had 14 kills, three aces and six digs to lead Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) to a 3-1 victory over visiting Chewelah (4-4). Lindsay Jelke added 31 assists for the Eagles (6-1). … Ashley Cox served 15 points in the first game and dished out 32 assists as first-place Pullman (7-0) swept last-place host Deer Park (0-8).
