Lakeland outlasts Lake City in five games

Brigitte Boucher finished with 14 kills and a pair of blocks as Lakeland won a thriller over Lake City 25-19, 14-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-13 in Inland Empire League volleyball action Thursday at Lakeland.

Danielle Jacobson added nine kills, five aces and 14 digs for Lakeland (7-5 in league), which will be the second seed at the 4A Region 1 tournament Saturday in Moscow. The Hawks will take on No. 3 Post Falls.

Kaylen Meredith led Lake City (7-5) with 18 kills, and Riki Moreland added three aces and three blocks. The Timberwolves finished in a tie for second place in the IEL with Coeur d’Alene.

In other IEL action, Moscow finished its regular season undefeated by sweeping Coeur d’Alene 25-22, 25-14, 25-19 at Coeur d’Alene. Moscow, the IEL regular-season champion, is the No. 1 seed to the 4A Region 1 tournament and will host No. 4 Sandpoint Saturday. Coeur d’Alene finishes tied for second in the IEL. … Mandy Edmonson finished with 12 kills and seven blocks as Lewiston (3-9) held off Sandpoint (2-10) 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 25-11 at Lewiston. Kim Fong added 26 assists and 21 digs for the Bengals.

Shanna Heath had 10 kills as St. Maries wrapped up a perfect Intermountain League season with a 25-13, 25-20, 25-17 sweep of visiting Priest River. St. Maries (8-0 in league) will have a first-round bye and the top seed at Saturday’s 3A District 1 tournament at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.

Darcy Collins finished with 16 kills and four aces as Kootenai (12-0 in league) clinched the North Star League title by sweeping Wallace (10-2) 25-20, 25-17, 25-15 in Wallace. The Warriors earn the 1A District 1’s top seed. Wallace is the No. 2 seed. … In other NSL action, Dai Swan finished with a match-high 23 kills and four aces as Lakeside (6-6) held off Mullan (1-11) 25-20, 25-14, 17-25, 26-24 at Mullan. Lakeside, the No. 4 seed, will take on Post Falls Christian, the No. 5, in the 1A District 1 tournament next Thursday. … Katie Baker finished with 11 kills as Coeur d’Alene Charter (2-9) beat Post Falls Christian 25-18, 25-21, 13-25, 25-17 in Coeur d’Alene. Katie Hoye led PFC (3-9) with 12 kills. CdA Charter will take on Mullan in a loser-out 1A District 1 opener Saturday in Coeur d’Alene.

Sadey Vogel and Tori Allmaras scored second-half goals as Sandpoint finished the regular season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Lewiston in Inland Empire League action in Sandpoint. With the win, the Bulldogs, clinched the IEL regular-season championship. Sandpoint (10-4-4, 9-1-2) is the 4A Region 1 tournament’s No. 1 seed and will host No. 4 Post Falls Monday in a loser-out match. Lewiston (3-11-2, 0-11-1) is the 5A Region 1 No. 3 seed and will travel to No. 2 Lake City Tuesday for a loser-out match. … In other IEL action, Elizabeth Young had a goal and an assist as Lake City (8-7-3, 4-6-2) held Post Falls (5-10-1, 3-9) shotless in a 3-0 victory at Lake City.

Boys soccer

Cody Steele, Travis Haynes and Brandon Wood each scored as Lake City shored up the 5A Region 1 top seed with a 3-0 win over Post Falls in Inland Empire League play in Post Falls. Lake City (10-4-2, 8-3-1) will host the winner of Lewiston and Coeur d’Alene in a winner-to-state, loser-to-play-in match next Wednesday. Post Falls (8-7, 5-7), the No. 2 seed in the 4A Region 1 tournament, will host No. 3 Moscow Tuesday. … Michael Brewer had a goal and an assist in a one-minute span as Sandpoint finished the IEL season undefeated with a 2-1 win over Lewiston. Brewer scored in the ninth minute and then assisted on Brandon Eddy‘s goal in the 10th minute for the Bulldogs (14-1-2, 10-0-2), who are the 4A Region 1 top seed and will host No. 4 Lakeland in a loser-out match Tuesday. Lewiston, with the No. 3 seed, will travel to No. 2 Coeur d’Alene Monday for a loser-out match.
