Linfield’s win clinches streak of 50 seasons

Brett Elliott led Linfield to its Golden Anniversary moment on Saturday night.

Elliott completed 24 of 37 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns while leading Linfield to a 49-14 win over Southern Oregon in non-conference football play at Ashland, Ore.

With the win, the Division III top-ranked Wildcats (5-0) clinched their 50th consecutive winning season. The Raiders fell to 0-6.

Linfield’s last losing season was in 1955. The Wildcats are 384-90 since, including national championships in 1982, 1984, 1986 and last season.

The Wildcats set the all-divisions record for consecutive winning seasons in 1998, bettering Harvard and Notre Dame.

Elliott threw scoring passes of 7 and 3 yards to Casey Allen to give the Wildcats a 28-7 lead early in the second half.

Central Washington 30, Humboldt State 7: At Ellensburg, Wash., Mike Reilly rushed for 102 yards and one TD and threw for 281 yards and two scores as the Wildcats (5-2, 3-0) defeated the Lumberjacks (4-3, 1-2) in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Reilly became the first quarterback in school history to pass for more than 200 yards and rush for more than 100 in the same game. He’s the first Wildcats quarterback since 1978 to run for triple figures in a game.

Central also had two safeties in a game for the first time in 15 years.

Western Washington 38, Western Oregon 16: At Monmouth, Ore., James Monrean completed 17 of 27 passes for 271 yards and four TDs as the Vikings (3-4, 2-1) defeated the Wolves (2-5, 0-3) in the GNAC.

Monrean threw first-quarter TD passes of 19 and 45 yards to Matt Wilson. Duncan Sherrard rushed for 158 yards for Western, and Jake Carlyle added TD runs of 1 and 3 yards.

Pacific Lutheran 49, Chapman 10: At Puyallup, Wash., Chase Reed rushed for 136 yards and three TDs on seven carries to lead the Lutes (1-4) past the Panthers (1-4) in non-conference play.

PLU’s Chris Maine completed 8 of 11 passes for 113 yards, one TD and no interceptions.
